We believe our barrel design is not only a guaranteed head-turner, it is also a more practical and an outright smarter choice. Compare NorSauna’s common sense features with any other barrel style out there. We receive many compliments on our details, such as decorative wooden leaf-fascia and hinge designs, and overall appearance with integrating the roof, veranda, and outside benches with the shape of this model. It’s a beauty!
NorSauna’s Cedar Barrel model roofing system not only looks great, it will protect your investment for many years. Our “T-Lock” shingles, rated for 120-mph winds, actually hug a curved roofline much more effectively than traditional 3-tab or architectural shingles.
Why consider an outdoor sauna with a roof protected only by a thin coat of stain? Perhaps you know of cedar decks, even though stained periodically, eventually needing replacement. The constant thaw-freeze-thaw-freeze cycle in our harsher climates can lead to early structural damage to exposed wood. Over time, this would primarily effect just the upper roof staves of traditionally constructed barrels, where the surface is flatter, and more adversely effected from sunlight and the elements. Our construction design and techniques allow us to offer an insulated roof. We apply an aluminum foil vapor barrier and add fiberglass insulation, so as to more effectively hold heat in, obtain higher temperatures quicker, and maintain these temperatures better, especially in colder temperatures.
Our Barrel model is roomier with a 7-foot diameter, which allows us to offer a layout with one high and two low white cedar benches.
Other barrel saunas usually offer only two side benches. A high bench offers you the option of sitting in the hottest area of the sauna. You would need to heat the sauna longer and hotter with other barrel saunas having only a design for lower benches so as to gain higher temperatures at the lower bench level. Our better designed NorSauna Barrel model utilizes otherwise wasted heating.
Another advantage of this barrel model layout is the 6 kW electric heater located on the end wall next to the door, out of way of seating. Because of its circular shape, you are not heating the corner areas as in a rectangular shaped sauna. This concentrates the heat more in the middle of the hot room versus dispersing it to sides, also.
Our Barrel model actually has an attached treated wood base with built-in skids (NOT A CRADLE) and waterproof tongue and groove flooring. This makes moving this model more portable than other saunas, and gives you the option of utilizing it in more than one location. An RV type hook-up at both locations is all you need for year-round relaxation.
